Society For Technical Communication I'm nicking this description from their site because I think they sum it up so nicely. That, and I don't have the time to rewrite it. "STC is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. Its 23,000 members include technical writers, editors, graphic designers, multimedia artists, Web and Intranet page information designers, translators and others whose work involves making technical information understandable and available to those who need it." The STC site has job listings, links to other STC chapters, information on upcoming seminars and publications, and a pdf version of their extremely useful salary survey (for both Canada and the US).

STC Montreal This site is from the Montreal chapter of the STC (shameless plug from someone who used to be on the web committee).

The Official TECHWR-L This site operates in conjunction with the TECHWR-L mailing list. It contains links to other related sites and a huge list of books pertinent to the field. I find it's a great forum to discuss ideas, ask questions and learn something new every now and then. One word of caution- if you're not receiving messages in digest form, prepare to get around 50-100 individual emails a day.

Techprof An excellent resource filled with reports, bibliographies, links and news.

MiningCo Tech Writing Links This is a good place to start if you're looking for a wide range of information about technical writing. All links are nicely arranged in categories, making it far easier to find what you're looking for.

Merriam Webster Online Webster's searchable online dictionary and thesaurus. American biased spelling, but it'll have to do until Oxford decides to put their dictionary online - and for free.
